Marie Williams is a contemporary painter working in both oils and mixed media. The impetus for her work comes from travelling through the Nottinghamshire landscape.
She enjoys finding beauty in familiar places, pockets of wilderness on her doorstep. Working directly in situ Marie gathers and records information by drawing outside using a range of media. Graphite, charcoal and soft pastels provides freedom for experimentation. The aim is to capture an emotion of being in a particular place.
Taking inspiration from nature she is constantly asking broader questions concerning land formation, boundaries and the effects of weathering.
As work develops and memories are made, it can signify a visceral response rather than a direct representation.
